I was born in Hoorn, the Netherlands, in 1968. After having finished high school I started my study Chemistry at the University of Utrecht in 1989. I did my graduation work at Philips Research in 1994, and moved to Enschede to get my Ph.D. at the University of Twente in 1995. Development of active microshutters in Prof. Miko Elwenspoek's group.
Work on disordered photonic porous gallium phosphide in Prof. John Kelly's group, in collaboration with the group Waves in Complex Media at the University of Amsterdam, led by Prof. Ad Lagendijk.
Research on isotropic etching of silicon for the fabrication of microchannels for gas chromatography, in Prof. Miko Elwenspoek's group.
